Medicare Savings Programs

The Federal Government and the State of New Jersey both have programs that help low-income seniors with the costs of Medicare. See below for the descriptions and Income limits.

PAAD (Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled)
Income Limits: Single- $52,142 Married- $59,209
Generic Drugs: $0-$5 Brand Drugs: $7
Extras- PAAD pays deductibles, penalties, plan premiums

SENIOR GOLD
Income Limits: Single- $62,142 Married- $69,209
Members pay a copayment of $15 plus 50% of the remaining cost of each Senior Gold covered
drug. Once members reach annual out-of-pocket expenses exceeding $2,000 for single persons
or $3,000 for married couples, they pay only a flat $15 copayment per prescription for the
balance of that eligibility period.

LIFELINE UTILITY ASSISTANCE
Income Limits: Same as PAAD
The Lifeline Credit Program- $225 annual benefit in the form of a credit on electric/gas bills
Tenants Lifeline Assistance Program provides a $225 annual payment in the form of a check
for those who have the cost of gas and electric utilities included in their rent.

LIS- (EXTRA HELP- PART D LOW INCOME SUBSIDY)
Income Limits: Single- $20,580 Married- $27,840
Asset Limits: Single- $9,430 Married- $14,130
Generic Drugs: $0-$4.50 Brand Drugs: up to $11.20

SLMB (Specified Low-income Beneficiary)
Income Limits: Single- $18,072 Married- $24,528
Asset Limits: Single- $9,430 Married- $14,130
Pays the $174.70- Part B Premium for you

QMB (Qualified Medicare Beneficiary)
Income Limits: Single- $15,300 Married- $20,688
Asset Limits: Single- $9,430 Married- $14,130
Pays the $174.70- Part B Premium, deductibles, co-insurance, and payments
